Patrick R. Gideon, President and Chief Executive Officer
Patrick Gideon has the rare and distinct privilege of saying that his entire career has been with one company, Silver Lake Bank (SLB). Gideon's beginnings with the bank started as a young boy as a custodian during his father's tenure as president. From those beginnings, Gideon has followed in his father's footsteps, serving as President of SLB since 1987.
Gideon received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Kansas and attended the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Following his graduation, he returned to Topeka to take on the role of President. Patrick has spent 45 years in the banking and financial industry. During his tenure, Patrick's longstanding record of focusing on growth strategies and customer-relationship banking for owner-operator businesses has grown the bank from $26 million in assets to about $500 million.
An emphasis on listening and learning from customers continues to create an industry-specific knowledge base, making him a visionary leader who enjoys helping others grow and succeed. His forward-thinking approach ensures customers have the best in service combined with innovative products. He serves as Senior Lender and is responsible for the bank's largest loan portfolio. Patrick's local loan decision-making capability ensures timely and sound answers -- strengthening both businesses and consumers alike.
Patrick enjoys golfing, reading, rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks, and spending time with his sons, Austin and Nick and their families.
Brent D. Boles
Brent Boles was born and raised in Kansas, graduating from Topeka West High School before attending Washburn University. After six years on the West Coast working for Viking Freight System in Silicon Valley, he returned to Topeka to become a sales representative. Within two years, he was promoted to general manager of Schendel Pest Control — a business he would go on to purchase in 2002. As an owner-operator, he successfully grew the company before selling it in 2012. He launched Green Pest Solutions in 2019. Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, he later revived the original brand by partnering with a local landscape company and rebranding it under the original name. – Schendel Lawn & Landscape.
With firsthand experience owning and operating a business, Brent brings a unique aptitude and deep insight into the needs and challenges of other owner-operated companies. His background gives him a practical, empathetic perspective that aligns with Silver Lake Bank’s mission of supporting businesses led by hands-on entrepreneurs.
Brent and his wife, Angie, are proud parents of two adult daughters and one grandchild.
Austin R. Gideon
Austin Gideon is a Principal at Five Elms Capital, a private equity firm that invests in and acquires growth-stage software companies outside of Silicon Valley. He sits on the firm’s Investment Committee and serves on a number of boards of directors for Five Elms' investments.
Prior to joining Five Elms more than 7 years ago, Austin was an investor at The Stephens Group, a mid-market private equity firm, and an investment banker with Harris Williams’ Technology M&A Group. At both, he was responsible for analyzing and executing mergers and acquisitions across a diverse range of businesses within the technology, healthcare, and consumer sectors.
Austin is an owner and Board Member at Silver Lake Bank. Austin holds a B.S.C. in Accounting and Business Administration from Washington and Lee University.
Austin and his family reside in the Kansas City area.
CJ Gideon, Jr.
CJ is a native Kansan who followed in his father’s footsteps in the field of law. He is an attorney with Gideon Essary Tardio + Carter PLC in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the eldest of Clarence and Theda’s three children.
After graduating from Duke University in 1975, and Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1978, C.J. began representing health care providers in professional negligence, peer review, and other litigation matters. Over the past 45 years, he has tried more than 200 cases to verdict and has represented hospitals, physicians, and health care companies in Tennessee and many other states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, West Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, Kansas, Missouri and New Mexico. His undergraduate degree in economics, earned with honors from Duke University, has further informed his strategic approach to complex legal and business issues.
C.J. is the founder of his law firm, which he successfully grew into a multi-partner practice. This entrepreneurial experience gives him a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by owner-operators’ - insight that he brings to his role as a long-serving board member of Silver Lake Bank, an institution known for its focus on supporting owner-operated businesses. His firsthand knowledge of building and managing a professional services firm enhances his ability to contribute meaningfully to the bank’s strategic direction and governance.
C.J. has been recognized by numerous publications, including Best Lawyers in America, SuperLawyers, Tennessee Business Journal, and Chambers USA, for his excellence in the legal field. He has served on the Silver Lake Bank board since 2001. He and his wife, Cecile, reside in Nashville and are the proud parents of four adult children.
Nicholas J. Gideon
Nicholas J. Gideon joined Silver Lake Bank in 2016 as a lender at the newly opened Lawrence branch after graduating from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. There, he received a degree in Economics and played collegiate soccer. Nick grew up in Topeka, Kansas spending most of his time on the soccer field. Sports have always been a huge part of Nick’s life and it continues today.
You can find Nick watching the Chiefs on Sunday or Monday, cheering on the Jayhawk basketball team, or looking for his ball in the rough on the local golf course. Nick is also an outdoorsman. He enjoys hunting or snowboarding the back-country slopes in Colorado.
If there is one thing to understand about Nick, his greatest fulfillment comes from spending time with family and friends. Nick, wife Tori and children reside in Lawrence.
Nick joined the Silver Lake Bank board in 2021. He was appointed Lawrence Market President in 2021.
Scott D. Hamilton, DDS MSD
A Topeka native, Dr. Scott Hamilton earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry and completed his orthodontic residency at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas, where he also received his master’s degree in dentistry. He recently retired from active practice he remains as a partner at Hamilton, Wilson & Hendrickson Orthodontics, a respected owner-operated practice serving the region.
As a past owner and operator of a successful healthcare business, Dr. Scott brings valuable insight into the day-to-day realities and long-term strategies of running a private enterprise. His experience in managing a patient-focused, service-driven practice gives him a unique perspective that enhances his contributions to the Silver Lake Bank Board of Directors, which he joined in 2002. His understanding of leadership, growth, and sustainability in an owner-operated setting aligns closely with the bank’s mission to support similar businesses in the community.
In addition to his orthodontic practice, Dr. Scott is a published researcher, a clinical instructor in the orthodontic department at UMKC, and a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. He is also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Scott resides in Topeka with his wife, Mary. They are the proud parents of three adult children and three amazing grandchildren.
Scott B. Hunsicker
Scott Hunsicker is a lifelong resident of Topeka and the owner and president of Kansas Financial Resources. He began his career in 1983 as a life and financial services professional and holds designations as a Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, and Investment Advisor Representative. A graduate of The American College of Financial Services, Scott has built a career rooted in service, strategy, and stewardship.
His passion for small business began early, inspired by his grandfather, who owned and operated McElroy’s, a well-known plumbing, heating, and air conditioning company in Topeka. Continuing that legacy, Scott has grown his own multi-generational, owner-operated business and now works alongside the second generation. This hands-on experience gives him a deep understanding of the unique dynamics, challenges, and opportunities that come with running and sustaining a family-owned enterprise.
This perspective makes him a valuable asset to the Silver Lake Bank board and to the owner-operated businesses it serves. His insight into succession planning, long-term growth, and leadership transition helps guide the bank’s mission to support businesses that are built to last.
Scott has also been active in the 20/30 Club and served on the board of directors for Go Topeka. In 2020, he played a key role in launching the HOST (Helping Others Support Topeka) stimulus fund, which raised $2 million to provide pandemic relief to local businesses—an initiative supported by Silver Lake Bank. His leadership and commitment to community service were further recognized when he received the prestigious Wolgast Award, Go Topeka’s highest honor, named after former mayor Larry Wolgast. This award celebrates leaders who exemplify Topeka’s values and make a lasting impact on the community.
Scott joined the Silver Lake Bank board in 2022. He and his wife, Sherry, are proud parents of two adult children and four grandchildren.
William H. Jones
Bill Jones, raised in Michigan, but a longtime resident and business owner in Topeka joined the Silver Lake Bank board in 1981.
Bill, who studied at Oakland College in Michigan prior to joining the Air Force. He was stationed in California, then served in Vietnam as well as Forbes Air Force Base where he specialized in airborne electronics. He started and owns Cytek Media Systems based in Topeka. Cytek is a Video and Audio-Visual Equipment business with a focus on IT. It has been in business for more than 35 years.
In 2009, the City of Topeka presented him with the Champion of Character Award based on its Character and Safe Streets initiative. He was nominated for demonstrating charity, giving, determination and generosity for his donation of security equipment at a Topeka downtown non-profit business following thefts and vandalism there.
Bill is an avid K-State football fan and enjoys tailgating with family and friends in his RV. He and his wife have four adult children and ten grandchildren.
Kerry J. (Gideon) Martin
Kerry has been with the bank since 1989. She graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration, then was an FDIC Bank Examiner for 4½ years before joining the bank. Her responsibilities include regulatory compliance, internal audit oversight and overall management of the organization.
Kerry (Gideon) Martin grew up immersed in her family’s business, which gave her a deep, firsthand understanding of the values, challenges, and long-term vision that define owner-operated companies. This background continues to shape her leadership approach and strengthens her ability to support the bank’s mission of serving similar businesses with insight and empathy.
She joined the Silver Lake Bank Board of Directors in 1993, contributing decades of institutional knowledge and strategic guidance.
Outside of the bank, Kerry enjoys spending time with her family -- especially outdoors and anywhere near water. A devoted animal lover, she actively supports local animal welfare organizations and volunteers with The Cat Association of Topeka. Kerry and her husband, Sam, live in Wakarusa and are proud parents of four adult children.
Marvin G. Spees
Marvin was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, and is a proud graduate of Topeka High School and John Brown University, where he earned a degree in General Business.
In 1985, Marvin purchased Capital City Oil (CCO) from his father and his father's business partner, continuing the legacy of a family-owned enterprise. Under his leadership, CCO grew into a full-line petroleum distribution company serving commercial, industrial, and agriculture customers from Kansas City to Salina.
On January 1, 2025, CCO merged with its sister company, marking a new chapter in the business's evolution. Marvin's nephew now leads the newly combined company, while Marvin's son and daughter are preparing to carry the family legacy into the next generation. This multi-generational transition gives Marvin a unique and practical perspective on succession planning, leadership development, and the long-term sustainability of owner-operated busineesses--insight that he brings to his role on the Silver Lake Bank Board of Directors. He joined the SLB board in 1991.
In addition to his service at SLB, Marvin is a member of the John Brown University Board of Trustees, the Go Topeka Board of Trustees, and the state assocation board for petroleum marketers. He is also a familiar face at local charity events, often volunteering as an auctioneer.
Outside of his professional and civic commitments, Marvin enjoys golf, snow skiing, bicycling, and restoring classic cars. He is the proud father of two adult children and grandfather to one grandson.
