History of Silver Lake Bank

Silver Lake Bank was established in 1909 with $10,000 in capital, opening for business in a cement building on Railroad Avenue in Silver Lake, Kansas. We remain a community bank today, locally owned and operated. Headquartered in Topeka, we have a total of five branches and over 60 employees to serve you located in Silver Lake, Topeka, and Lawrence. 1909 Silver Lake State Bank is chartered and names I.B. Alters as President and J.R. Wilt as Cashier.  The bank is located in an ornamental cement building on Railroad Avenue in Silver Lake, Ks.
              
1928 Alta Joy Parr, President. Assets total $197,000.
         
1944 Lester Parr, President. Assets total $594,000. Mr. Parr dies in 1966.
1968 Nora Parr, widow of Lester Parr, sells controlling interest to Clarence Gideon, a practicing Topeka attorney. The bank's assets total $2.97 million. At the open house, the bank advertises a $100,000, 6 month CD special for 6 ¼%! 
1970 Patrick Gideon, 12 years old, is hired to assist with janitorial responsibilities.
1971 The bank adds space to the west of the building in Silver Lake, doubling in size.
1978 The bank's name changes from Silver Lake State Bank to Silver Lake Bank.
1980 Patrick Gideon joins the bank full-time after completing college.
1986 The bank acquires First State Bank in White Cloud, Ks.
1987 Patrick Gideon becomes President of Silver Lake Bank. Clarence Gideon is Chairman of the Board.
1990 The bank purchases and remodels the old Jayhawk Motel for a branch in Topeka. Kerry Gideon Martin joins the bank.
1993 The bank acquires Postal Savings and Loan Association in Topeka resulting in what is known as our Gage Bank located at 2011 SW Gage Blvd.
1995 Topeka (Jayhawk) officially becomes headquarters for Silver Lake Bank. Additionally, a new branch opens in Hiawatha.
2002 Expansion into Southwest Topeka at a new location known as our Southwest Bank. 
2006 Limited trust powers granted.
2007 Hiawatha and White Cloud branches sell to Hiawatha National Bank (branch GNB).
2009 Silver Lake Bank celebrates 100 years of providing financial services. The bank's assets exceed $200 million.
2016 The bank opens a branch in Lawrence.
2018 The Bank announces the election of Austin Gideon to the Board of Directors.
2018 Silver Lake Bank celebrates 50 years of Gideon family ownership with customers and friends on June 28th at The Brownstone in Topeka from 4-7pm.
2021 Nicholas Gideon named Lawrence Market President and elected to join the Board of Directors.
2022 Loan Office opened in Overland Park with John Geiger serving as Market President.
